The history of these wonderful tiny boxes dates back to the 1740's in Georgian England when leading Goldsmiths and Miniaturist painters worked together to create a variety of "trinkets" and "curiosities".
The first miniature boxes were completely crafted, enamelled and painted by hand by the most skilled artists of the day. By 1800, the transfer printing process was developed enabling the factory to produce more and begin exporting the now famous high quality keepsakes. Unfortunatly by the mid-1800's, the Napoleonic Wars and economic hard times created too many difficulties for the factory and operations ceased after just less than 100 years.

In 1970, Susan Benjamin of the London antique shop Halcyon Days worked together with a small enamelling firm in Bilston to revive the original art and quality made boxes. The design, the enamelling quality and character of each piece is true to the artistic workmanship of over two centuries ago.
The Gold Leaf Logo seen on each display Box Top on the Halcyon Days Enamels shown here was introdued in 1980. The Gold Leaf "By Appointment" insignia on the inside of each display box bears the Royal Coat of Arms of both Queen Elizabeth II and H.M. Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. A small colour booklet is included with the complete history of Halcyon Days and the earlier Enamelled Boxes.
